The Deck: This game is usually played with a standard 52-card deck that is shuffled after each round. The rank of the cards is: Ace, King, Queen, Jack, Ten, then Nine through Two in order. Suits are not a consideration in the game.

Overview: To play, place an Ante bet. Players and the dealer are each dealt a single card. Players win even money on the Ante bet when their card is higher than the dealer, lose the Ante bet when their card is lower than the dealer, and on ties have an option to either:

• Surrender: Players that choose this option have half of their Ante bet returned; the hand is over.
• Go to War: Players that choose this option must make an additional bet -- the Raise -- equal to their Ante bet; the War round begins. In the War round, the dealer deals three cards face down (which are discarded and have no value), then deals a face up card to the player and dealer and the hand is resolved as follows:
  • Win the War: If your card is higher than the dealer's card, then you win even money on the Raise and your Ante bet is returned to you.
  • Tie the War: If you card ties the dealer's card, then you win even money on the Raise and your Ante bet is returned to you.
  • Lose the War: If your card is lower than the dealer's card, then you lose both the Raise and the Ante bet.

In addition to the Ante bet, you can also make a Tie bet. Tie bets are paid at 10 to 1 when your initial card matches the dealer's initial card.

Strategy: 

• On a tie, always choose to Go to War since you win ties in the subsequent War round.
• The best strategy is to play something else. :)
