Sic Bo: Game Rules & Strategy
Object: The object of sic bo is to place bets on the total pips that appear on three thrown dice, or on specific combinations of the numbers that are thrown.

Overview: There are many different types of bets in sic bo, each with different payouts that vary slightly from casino to casino.

Bet Description Payout
Small/Big Bet if the dice total is between 4 and 10 or between 11 and 17. This bet loses if a triple is thrown. 1 to 1
Total You can bet on the specific dice total between 4 and 17. The payout varies by the number that you select, with greater odds for totals nearer the 4 and 17 endpoints. 4 or 17: 62 to 1
5 or 16: 31 to 1
6 or 15: 18 to 1
7 or 14: 12 to 1
8 or 13: 8 to 1
9 or 12: 7 to 1
10 or 11: 6 to 1
Singles You can bet that a number from 1 to 6 will appear on at least one of the thrown dice. 1 to 1, 2 to 1, or 12 to 1, when 1, 2, or 3 of the thrown dice match your single number
Doubles You can bet that a pair of numbers from 1 to 6 (for example, two 2s) will appear on the thrown dice. 11 to 1
Any Triples You can bet that any triplet of numbers will appear on the thrown dice. 31 to 1
Triples You can bet that a triplet of numbers from 1 to 6 (for example, three 5s) will appear on the thrown dice. 180 to 1
Pair You can bet that any specific combination of two dice (for example, 3 and 5, or 4 and 6) will appear on the thrown dice. 6 to 1

After players make bets, the dealer rolls the dice, and then collects or pays off bets based on the results of the roll.

Strategy: 

  • Stick the Small/Big bets; these bets have the smallest house advantage.
  • Land-based casinos offer worse odds than online casinos; if you must play, play at an online casino.
